Case Study: Advizex and Hot Aisle

Jon Stevens, the CEO and founder of Hot Aisle is democratizing compute by making cutting-edge bare metal AMD AI hardware accessible and on-demand to all developers.

"Bare metal means that we offer direct low-level hardware access to anyone who wants to rent it," said Jon. "This is something that is not available in large hyperscaler compute."

There was a gap in the market, and Jon and his team decided to fill it.

Now, their offerings give organizations 360-degree control over their compute resources—without the need for capex/opex investments.

"Our culture is to be as transparent, honest, and ethical as possible," added Jon. This commitment to best-in-class service gives Hot Aisle a competitive edge in an industry often marred by complexity and opaque processes.

Treading new ground means thinking outside the box. Hot Aisle needed a strategic partner to guide the design, deployment, and scaling of its infrastructure. With 40-plus years of expertise and long-standing partnerships with tech leaders, Advizex fit the bill.

The Problem

AI and machine learning technologies are becoming central to enterprise strategies. Hot Aisle saw an opportunity to introduce GPU-as-a-Service to the market. This forward-thinking solution would address the high-performance computing needs of modern-day businesses while enabling flexibility and scalability.

The idea was revolutionary, but the execution faced challenges:

  • What are the best-fit hardware components—power, cooling, network, and storage—that will integrate seamlessly and deliver peak performance?
  • How can Hot Aisle manage the shipping, handling, and assembly of valuable equipment?
  • How will the service scale with demand?
  • How can Hot Aisle position itself in an emerging market?

The Solution

"Hot Aisle is doing something that few else are doing today," said Jon.

When you're walking an unpaved road, you need a guide. Advizex stepped in with a multifaceted solution.

Infrastructure

Every single aspect of Hot Aisle's infrastructure needed to be optimized for AI workloads—from cables to racks and everything in between.

Over four months, Advizex joined weekly planning calls with Hot Aisle, Dell, Broadcom, Panduit, and other vendors. Together, they put together a comprehensive infrastructure plan capable of delivering the high performance and scalability needed to succeed.

They also leveraged a local office to store hardware components so Hot Aisle wouldn't have to overpay for warehousing solutions.

"Advizex has helped us with all aspects of the deployment," Jon explained.

"Of course, we know that we want Dell and AMD, but specifying out all of the minute details of cables, switches, patch panels, racks, and other gear is something they have been extremely helpful with."

Integration and Support

Advizex leveraged its partnerships with Dell and AMD to source and deploy Dell XE9680 PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD MI300x GPUs. This combination represents the latest in AI compute hardware.

Advizex also selected networking switches for optimized GPU communication across clusters and handled the secure shipping of all equipment.

Ongoing Collaboration

With a customer-for-life philosophy, Advizex continues to support Hot Aisle with high-level operational guidance. Regular cadence calls between Advizex and Hot Aisle enable continuous feedback loops and proactive problem-solving.

"Having Advizex on our side to help guide us in this journey is nothing but appreciated in every way," said Jon.

"It takes a whole team of giant brains with the skills to do what we are doing, and I can't imagine doing it without the team at Advizex."

The Results

Jon's feedback speaks for itself: "Everything Advizex has said they would do, they have done above and beyond expectations."

While still early in the implementation journey, the partnership has already resulted in:

  • Streamlined infrastructure planning that reduced setup time and potential bottlenecks
  • Leading AI compute performance thanks to the deployment of cutting-edge AMD GPUs
  • Simplified logistics leading to safe delivery and fast setup
  • Future-proof and growth-ready operations and infrastructure so Hot Aisle can continue pioneering the AI market

Looking Ahead

Hot Aisle is ready for future expansion. When AMD releases the MI355x, they will purchase them and build a new cluster, working with Advizex every step of the way.

"We would absolutely recommend Advizex to anyone looking to deploy compute," said Jon. "Since our mission is to help businesses participate in this AI revolution, we will be continuously relying on Advizex as our partner to achieve this goal."
