Advizex Strengthens Cybersecurity and Compliance Posture

The Team
Michael Covell, Matt Wenger, Eric Anderson, Neil Goldsmith
The Problem
A public sector organization supporting hundreds of local governments across a U.S. state was preparing for HITRUST certification. During this process, they discovered gaps in their security operations, with no visibility tools or defined security program in place. Leadership needed a comprehensive security roadmap and a way to operationalize it—within budget and across a distributed team of 80 employees headquartered in Boston.
The Solution
Advizex delivered a combined services model composed of:
• vCISO leadership
• Arctic Wolf threat detection
• Advizex Help Desk support
Matt Wenger, Advizex’s Advisory Lead, worked directly with the customer’s CIO to define a top-level security strategy aligned to HITRUST standards. Arctic Wolf provided extended detection and response (XDR), vulnerability scanning, and a managed Security Operations Center (SOC), enabling 24/7 threat monitoring and response.
The Advizex Help Desk supported daily IT needs, freeing internal staff to focus on long-term improvements and compliance. The organization later expanded the program with Arctic Wolf’s Managed Risk and IR JumpStart services, as well as two follow-up change orders for additional vCISO hours.
The Implementation
With minimal initial security tooling, Advizex and Arctic Wolf built the security framework from the ground up. The team tuned the XDR platform, sorted raw data, and developed actionable policies. The vCISO provided strategic governance, while services were delivered remotely in close coordination with the internal IT team.
A shared Microsoft Teams workspace was used to track goals, scope, and updates in real time.
The Technology
The security solution includes:
• Advizex vCISO Services
• Arctic Wolf MDR/XDR
• Arctic Wolf Managed Risk
• Arctic Wolf IR JumpStart• Advizex Help Desk-as-a-Service
All components were selected and aligned to support HITRUST compliance, offering governance, detection, and user support in one integrated stack.
The Impact
The customer significantly improved threat visibility and reduced overall risk. They advanced toward HITRUST certification with a scalable, cost-effective approach.
The vCISO role delivered expert leadership without requiring a full-time hire. Arctic Wolf managed threat detection, while Advizex provided critical support functions. The project totaled $190,000, including vCISO, Arctic Wolf, and Help Desk services.
The Conclusion
Advizex and Arctic Wolf collaborated to build a sustainable, compliant security program from the ground up. The organization now has full visibility into its environment and a clear understanding of key risks—and the model is working exactly as planned.
